This course will introduce students to the due diligence industry and how it represents a major source of demand for interpreters. It will incorporate a fast introduction to the world of finance and investing. It is not expected that students have broad familiarity with this sector beyond what is covered in major newspapers around topics such as IPOs and pre-IPO investment announcements.
The course will contain six lectures (1.5 hours each) and three practicum sessions (3 hours each). During lectures, students will learn about:

* what is due diligence and who conducts it
* the two types of due diligence (industry discussions and investor relations)
* preparing for a career in due diligence

In addition, the first 15 minutes of each lecture shall be an overview of public equities that are trending based on the current day’s investor sentiment. This provides real-world applications of course principles.

Hands-on practice will be achieved through interpretation of various real-life audios used in the due diligence industry, including earnings calls, investor presentations, and expert network interviews.

Lectures will be conducted remotely and practicum sessions will be held on campus.

Grades will be determined based on a combination of vocabulary comprehension as well as interpretation performance.
